Rishikesh wedding cost: Mussoorie and Dehradun compared

Compare river, hill and foothill wedding budgets, with a clear hosting basis, realistic weather plans and property-specific food and alcohol checks.

Quick answer

₹40–₹70 lakh is a practical Rishikesh wedding cost estimate as of 2026 for 200 guests at boutique resorts, with two nights, three functions, GST and contingency included.1 On the same basis, allow ₹45–₹80 lakh in Mussoorie and ₹35–₹60 lakh in Dehradun.2 These are hosted-wedding budgets, not hotel quotes; alcohol and travel to Uttarakhand are excluded.1

  • Compare identical room-nights, meal schedules and indoor backup, not advertised per-plate rates.
  • Rishikesh’s city restrictions do not describe every outlying resort; confirm the property’s menu and licensed event space.3
  • Monsoon planning must address road disruption as well as moving functions indoors.4
  • Totals include GST and a 10% contingency, but exclude alcohol, personal shopping and travel to Uttarakhand.1

Rishikesh wedding cost is most useful when it separates the hotel bill from the rest of the celebration. A river setting, a Mussoorie hilltop and a Dehradun hotel are different planning choices, even when their photographs look equally attractive. Start with the rooming list, the indoor fallback and the family’s food preferences before comparing totals.

How much does a Rishikesh wedding cost by guest count?

For a boutique-resort celebration with 200 guests, the Rishikesh planning range is ₹40–₹70 lakh as of 2026.1 Comparable boutique-category estimates are ₹45–₹80 lakh in Mussoorie and ₹35–₹60 lakh in Dehradun.2

The comparison assumes everyone stays for two nights, shares at double occupancy and attends three functions, with meals, standard event arrangements, GST and a 10% contingency included.1 These are hosted-wedding budgets, not venue-rental prices. A family accommodating only outstation guests needs a different calculation.

Editorial estimates, not hotel quotations. Larger groups may need accommodation across properties; no single-property capacity is implied. Alcohol, travel to Uttarakhand and personal purchases are excluded.

The table is not a luxury-resort tariff guide. On the same 200-guest basis, allow ₹60 lakh–₹1.2 crore for Rishikesh five-star resorts, ₹70 lakh–₹1.3 crore for Mussoorie five-star resorts, or ₹50–₹90 lakh for Dehradun five-star city hotels, including GST and contingency.6 Exceptional buyouts and elaborate production can exceed these planning bands.

The lower ends assume restrained décor and workable room availability, not a heavily customised event. Before choosing a region solely on its headline total, compare the same brief with the India destination-wedding cost guide.

What does the wedding budget actually include?

The budget covers hosting and delivering the celebration, not every expense connected with getting married. Accommodation and meals are calculated separately from venue use, décor, sound, photography, coordination and local transfers.1

For 200 guests at double occupancy, the starting requirement is 100 rooms for two nights, or 200 room-nights.7 Replace that assumption with your actual family allocation before asking for contracts. Single-occupancy elders, children, accessible rooms, bridal preparation and crew accommodation all need explicit treatment; do not assume they fit inside the guest-room block.

Contingency reserve3.6–6.2
Calculated total before headline rounding39.6–68.2
The contingency is a reserve, not a taxable supplier invoice. Alcohol, guest travel to Uttarakhand, jewellery, clothing, gifts and celebrity entertainment are outside this illustration.

This illustration assumes a complete food programme, not merely the wedding dinner. Ask the hotel to name the included meals, tea service, arrival refreshments and late-night snacks. Where breakfast is bundled into accommodation, remove it from the catering calculation rather than counting it again.

Under the changes effective 22 September 2025, rooms with a taxable value up to ₹7,500 per unit per day attract 5% GST without input tax credit; higher-value rooms attract 18%.9 Catering and banquet packages at specified premises attract 18%.9 Ask for taxable values and GST separately on the quotation.

A negotiated room discount does not by itself change the hotel’s specified-premises status, which depends on the applicable prior-year supply test or declaration.10 Do not apply the room tax rate to the entire wedding package. Keep the family’s clothing, jewellery, gifts and travel budget outside the venue comparison.

Can you serve alcohol and non-vegetarian food in Rishikesh?

Do not assume either a blanket ban across the whole resort belt or blanket permission at every hotel. Incredible India describes Rishikesh city as vegetarian-only and alcohol-free, while some outlying resorts have different menus and licensed alcohol arrangements.3

The distinction is geographical, not just a hotel’s star category. Taj Rishikesh Resort & Spa, Uttarakhand is in Singthali, which Taj describes as 30 km from Rishikesh; its official dining information includes meat dishes and a bar.11 That establishes the need to check the exact property, not permission for your particular function.

Uttarakhand’s excise policy provides for occasional bar permissions and separate approval for additional counters on spaces such as terraces or lawns.12 Ask the hotel whether its existing licence covers your event space, what additional permission is needed and who is responsible for obtaining it. A restaurant bar listing is not sufficient evidence for a lawn reception.

For food, request a written menu policy before paying a deposit. Specify vegetarian, Jain and non-vegetarian requirements, including whether separate preparation and service are required. Do not treat bringing an outside caterer or your own bottles as a workaround for restrictions. For a dry celebration, plan the mocktail and hospitality experience deliberately rather than leaving it as a missing bar.

Which months are best for a wedding in Uttarakhand?

For a balance of comfort and rain avoidance, our planning preference is late February–April or October–November in Rishikesh and Dehradun, and March–May or October–November in Mussoorie.13 These are shortlist windows, not promises of clear weather or low room rates.

The lower valley and the hill station should not share an identical weather plan. Regional climate guidance distinguishes hotter Doon summers from cooler hill conditions.13 In the warmer windows, price shaded lunches and cooled indoor functions; for Mussoorie evenings, check heating where guests will actually sit rather than relying on room heating.

Most regional rainfall falls from June to September, with July and August the wettest months.4 During this period, the decision is not just whether a lawn can be covered: it is whether guests, suppliers and equipment can reach the property when conditions deteriorate.

A December–February Mussoorie wedding needs a heated indoor-first plan and realistic cold-weather arrangements.13 Ask about covered routes between bedrooms, meals and functions, then test the backup layout with the full seating and décor plan. A spare restaurant is not automatically a suitable wedding hall.

Agree who decides to move indoors, when the decision must be made and who pays for resetting equipment. Keep the alternative space reserved in writing. A cheaper date is only useful when the weather plan remains acceptable without emergency upgrades.

How do hill roads and guest transfers change the budget?

Price the journey to the actual hotel entrance, not merely to the destination name. Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is an airport gateway for Mussoorie, but guests still need the road transfer to their hill property.14

Ask the hotel and transport operator to confirm which vehicles can use the final approach, where luggage is unloaded and whether guests must change vehicles. Request charges for waiting, parking, additional trips, driver accommodation and late arrivals. Build the transfer plan from the flight and train manifest rather than hiring a fleet against the headline guest count.

For elders and guests with limited mobility, check the route from drop-off to reception, bedrooms and every function. Ask for a current walkthrough showing gradients, steps, lifts and buggy routes. Reserve conveniently located rooms by category and building, not merely under a general promise of assistance.

Monsoon floods and landslides can affect roads and bridges in the region.4 Leave recovery time between arrival and the main ceremony, especially for guests connecting from international flights. Set a clear process for road-status checks and delayed arrivals; a normal map journey time should not become a contractual promise.

Ask production vendors to include freight, unloading labour, equipment storage, crew meals and accommodation in their scope. Keep ceremonies and meals on the main property where practical. Moving everyone between scenic locations should be a conscious programme choice with an operating plan, not an assumption that transport will sort itself out.

Which venues should be on the shortlist?

Shortlist Taj Rishikesh Resort & Spa, Uttarakhand for the river setting, JW Marriott Mussoorie Walnut Grove Resort & Spa and Jaypee Residency Manor Mussoorie for Mussoorie, and Taj Mussoorie Foothills Dehradun for a Dehradun base.11,15,16,17

These examples illustrate different settings, not properties priced by the boutique-category table. Check the rooming plan and usable indoor fallback before requesting the same event brief from each. Published facilities do not establish availability on your dates.

Taj Rishikesh Resort & Spa, Uttarakhand is an outlying river-resort option; its official inventory lists 32 rooms and 47 villas.18 Request a bedroom-level allocation and the route between accommodation and functions. A villa count is not automatically interchangeable with a standard hotel-room count.

JW Marriott Mussoorie Walnut Grove Resort & Spa illustrates why layout matters: its Grand Orchard Ballroom chart lists 275 guests for reception layout but 96 for banquet layout.15 Ask for a plan incorporating dining tables, the stage, mandap and circulation, rather than accepting the largest advertised capacity as seated wedding capacity.

Jaypee Residency Manor Mussoorie is a hilltop property in Barlowganj with 135 rooms listed on its official website.16 Request the bookable room allocation across its towers and a guest-movement plan. Published inventory does not mean that all rooms can be released to your wedding.

Taj Mussoorie Foothills Dehradun is in Malsi, Dehradun, rather than Mussoorie hill town; it lists 115 rooms and indoor and outdoor banquet spaces.17 It is an example for families comparing Dehradun wedding venues with hill resorts, while keeping the exact setting and transfer requirements clear.

What should the hotel confirm before you pay?

Get a priced scope and an operating plan before paying a non-refundable deposit. The contract should make it possible to understand both the normal wedding programme and the replacement programme without another round of negotiation.

  • Rooms and meals: specify room categories, occupancy, inclusions, check-in arrangements, meal guarantees, crew meals and the deadline for reducing commitments. Separate accommodation charges from function catering.
  • Spaces and production: name every function area and its backup, exclusive-use periods, setup and dismantling access, power, heating or cooling, vendor access and any restoration charges.
  • Permissions and changes: record the approved food policy, responsibility for alcohol permissions, permitted sound arrangements, cancellation terms and the treatment of weather-related or road-related disruption.12

Keep changes in the same written cost sheet: a larger guest list, upgraded décor or a revised arrival plan should show its effect on the total before approval. Compare the amount payable under your actual programme, not an attractive starting package with open-ended additions.

How we estimated these costs

These are editorial planning estimates, not surveyed local averages, live quotations or promised packages. The model separates accommodation, the complete food programme and other event costs, then adds GST provision and contingency.1,2,5

The regional and category reporting used as historical context is from July 2022; ICRA’s August 2026 national hotel outlook provides a more current room-market cross-check.19 Neither source directly establishes the destination ranges printed here. The assumptions and arithmetic, rather than an unsupported inflation multiplier, produce the estimates.

For the Rishikesh boutique illustration, the assumed average accommodation cost is ₹8,000–₹14,000 per room-night including GST, and the complete food allowance is ₹5,000–₹8,000 per guest across the stay, also including GST.1 These are modelling inputs, not published hotel rates or single-meal prices. More elaborate production requires a separate estimate.

The model adds a 10% reserve to the GST-inclusive subtotal; the reserve is not a guarantee against all overruns.1 Actual results depend on date, available room mix, exclusivity, meal commitments and logistics. No wedding marketplace listing is treated as proof of a negotiated rate.

Families still deciding on the setting can compare the Jim Corbett wedding cost guide and the destination comparison guide. Carry the same guest-stay assumptions into that comparison so a change in the wedding brief does not masquerade as a saving.

Frequently asked questions

Can a large wedding keep every guest in the same hotel?

It depends on available guest rooms, not the lawn’s advertised capacity. At double occupancy, 500 guests require 250 rooms before crew accommodation and allocation changes.7 Ask for written confirmation of the room block. When accommodation is split, compare transfer arrangements and breakfast locations before deciding that the cheaper overflow hotel represents a saving.

Are these figures only the venue and catering bill?

No. The estimates include accommodation, meals, basic event delivery, photography, coordination, local transfers, GST and contingency.1 The hotel may invoice only part of that scope. Ask vendors to separate included services from allowances, and maintain another budget for travel to Uttarakhand, personal shopping and any alcohol programme.

Will a completely vegetarian, alcohol-free wedding be much cheaper?

Not necessarily. The guide already excludes alcohol, so removing a bar does not reduce the displayed totals.1 Compare actual vegetarian menus, live stations, service arrangements and hotel commitments rather than assuming the food policy determines the whole budget. Room category and the scale of production still need separate decisions.

Does a Mussoorie Foothills address mean the hotel is in Mussoorie?

No. Taj Mussoorie Foothills Dehradun is in Malsi, Dehradun.17 Check the mapped address and the journey to your chosen property before comparing it with a hilltop venue. Treat setting, accessibility and function layouts as separate filters; the destination word in a hotel name is not a complete location description.

Is a monsoon discount worth accepting?

Only when the indoor replacement programme is satisfactory and the travel risk is acceptable to the family. The regional wet season is concentrated in June–September, with July and August wettest.4 Compare the quoted saving against covered guest movement, production changes and disruption terms. Do not assume a tent alone solves the problem.

How can we reduce spending without shortening the guest list?

Recalculate who actually needs accommodation, simplify décor changes and keep functions close together. The published comparisons assume all guests stay for two nights, so fewer hosted room-nights produce a different scenario rather than a like-for-like discount.1 Request revised meal guarantees and room commitments before treating any reduction as a confirmed saving.

Notes and sources

Prices move every season and differ by date, menu and negotiation. Treat these as planning ranges and confirm current rates with each venue.

  1. As of 2026, the editorial budget for a boutique-resort wedding in Rishikesh with 200 guests, two nights, three functions and double occupancy is ₹40–₹70 lakh, including GST and a 10% contingency but excluding alcohol, travel to Uttarakhand and personal purchases. WedAGI estimate: This is a constructed planning scenario, not a measured local price range: 200 room-nights at an assumed GST-inclusive average cost of ₹8,000–₹14,000, ₹5,000–₹8,000 per guest for the complete food and non-alcoholic beverage programme, and ₹10–₹18 lakh for venue use, restrained production, photography, coordination and local transfers give ₹36–₹62 lakh before a 10% reserve; ₹39.6–₹68.2 lakh is rounded to ₹40–₹70 lakh. Historical regional reporting informs the broad category, while current ICRA room-rate context checks plausibility; neither supplies these exact inputs. 2. On the same 200-guest, two-night, three-function basis, as-of-2026 boutique-resort budgets are ₹45–₹80 lakh in Mussoorie and boutique-hotel budgets are ₹35–₹60 lakh in Dehradun, including GST and a 10% contingency. WedAGI estimate: Mussoorie assumes GST-inclusive room-nights of ₹10,000–₹16,000, whole-stay food allowances of ₹5,000–₹9,000 per guest and other event costs of ₹11–₹20 lakh; the result with reserve is ₹45.1–₹77 lakh, rounded. Dehradun assumes ₹7,000–₹11,000 per room-night, ₹4,500–₹7,500 per guest for food and ₹9–₹17 lakh in other costs; ₹35.2–₹59.4 lakh with reserve is rounded. 5. For 100, 200, 300 and 500 guests respectively, the as-of-2026 boutique-category budgets are ₹25–₹45 lakh, ₹40–₹70 lakh, ₹55 lakh–₹1 crore and ₹90 lakh–₹1.5 crore in Rishikesh; ₹30–₹50 lakh, ₹45–₹80 lakh, ₹65 lakh–₹1.1 crore and ₹1–₹1.7 crore in Mussoorie; and ₹20–₹35 lakh, ₹35–₹60 lakh, ₹50–₹85 lakh and ₹80 lakh–₹1.3 crore in Dehradun, including GST and a 10% contingency for two nights, three functions and double occupancy. WedAGI estimate: For two nights at double occupancy, room-nights equal guest count. Apply the room and food assumptions used in the destination examples, then add other-event allowances that vary by scale: Rishikesh ₹10–₹18 lakh, ₹10–₹18 lakh, ₹12–₹24 lakh and ₹17–₹26 lakh; Mussoorie ₹11–₹20 lakh, ₹11–₹20 lakh, ₹14–₹25 lakh and ₹16–₹29 lakh; Dehradun ₹7–₹13 lakh, ₹9–₹17 lakh, ₹11–₹22 lakh and ₹15–₹25 lakh, respectively. Add 10% contingency and round to broad planning bands. The larger scenarios allow split accommodation and are not claims of single-hotel capacity. 6. For 200 guests, two nights and three functions, as-of-2026 planning ranges rise to ₹60 lakh–₹1.2 crore for Rishikesh five-star resorts, ₹70 lakh–₹1.3 crore for Mussoorie five-star resorts and ₹50–₹90 lakh for Dehradun five-star city hotels, including GST and contingency. WedAGI estimate: Separate premium scenarios use GST-inclusive room-night assumptions of ₹13,000–₹28,000 in Rishikesh, ₹16,000–₹30,000 in Mussoorie and ₹10,000–₹20,000 in Dehradun; complete food allowances per guest are ₹8,000–₹14,000, ₹8,000–₹15,000 and ₹7,000–₹11,000 respectively. Other event costs are ₹13–₹25 lakh, ₹16–₹28 lakh and ₹11.5–₹20 lakh. Adding 10% and rounding gives the stated bands. Historical premium-package reporting and current national room-rate context inform these discretionary assumptions; no property quotation is represented. 7. At two guests per room, 200 guests require 100 rooms and 200 room-nights for a two-night stay, while 500 guests require 250 rooms before crew and occupancy adjustments. WedAGI estimate: Arithmetic under the guide’s explicit double-occupancy assumption: guests divided by two gives rooms; multiply rooms by two nights for room-nights, without assuming that children, suites or villas necessarily follow that allocation. 8. The illustrative Rishikesh boutique-resort budget allocates ₹16–₹28 lakh to rooms, ₹10–₹16 lakh to food, ₹10–₹18 lakh to other event costs and ₹3.6–₹6.2 lakh to contingency, producing an unrounded total of ₹39.6–₹68.2 lakh. WedAGI estimate: Reconciliation of the explicit 200-guest scenario: the first three GST-inclusive lines sum to ₹36–₹62 lakh; 10% of those endpoints is ₹3.6–₹6.2 lakh. The combined other-cost line is a planning allowance, not an assertion that a supplier sells the listed services as a package.
